Changing rear axle ..but which diff ratio ?

Postby flashgordon » Wed Jun 20, 2018 1:38 pm

Due to my rear diff whining and being a low ratio i.e. 5.11:1 what would you recommend as a better alternative ratio on a Mk7 100PS 350 5 speed 2.4 RWD twin wheel tipper which is rarely fully loaded and will never be used to tow?

The engine pulls well at present when fully loaded so it should pull a higher ratio quite easily, even if it is likely lose out on acceleration, I'm not too concerned. It will help reduce engine rpm when cruising at speed and fuel economy too.

Any opinions ?

4.27 is a good "all-rounder".

Thanks.

I was thinking that the next taller ratio would be too tall. I'm not going to map it or convert to six speed !!
