Replace crown wheel with different ratio

Postby Dave4583 » Sun Jul 08, 2018 10:35 am

Hi, new to the forum.
I have a 2003 mk6 RWD 2.4 transit. The diff is noisy and I'm thinking of replacing the crown wheel, pinons and bearings. I have been told it is a 5.88 ratio by 2 sources but 1 of them say I could replace it with a 5.13 and the other says it needs to be a 5.11 mk7 crown wheel. How can I confirm this.
Have been told I need to use the 5.11 because it's a Dana (I think) rear end.

The reason for changing the ratio is at present at 100ks it's doing just under 3500rpm. I've been told going to the 5.13 would be about 1 gear different so I'm thinking that would have it sitting just under 3000 rpm on the open road (100kmh).

Thanks for your time

DaveR.
