Aerial

Postby pippin » Sun Jul 08, 2018 9:33 pm

Now - please - no jokes about vanaerial disease!

MK7
How does the hard rubber aerial base fix to the black plastic housing out of which also protrudes the nearside wing mirror?

Just as important - how do I remove said plastic housing to replace said aerial base?

I know that the aerial itself just unscrews - it is the bit it screws into that I need.

I know someone out there will be be the mine of information - and even be able to give me the part number for the replacement.

Mk7 aerial is usually on the roofline under the headlining of a low roof or in the overhead cupboard of a mid/high roof.

They're usually secured from the inside by a nut or screw.

Not sure about it being fitted to the wing mirror cowling, may of been an aftermarket one fitted by a previous owner?
Again there usually fixed by a nut or screw from the inside so it may require removing the arm mount by piping out the 3 blanks and under each should be a sheer bolt. But possibly again just a normal bolt or allenscrew if your lucky?

Thanks for the reply.

Nope, not aftermarket.

Factory fitted by Ford.

It is a chassis cab model Motorhome, hence not on the roof.

Airthies: What part of ""How does the hard rubber aerial base fix to the black plastic housing out of which also protrudes the nearside wing mirror?"" did you not understand?

Even motorhomes don't have wing mirrors on the roof!!!!

Just joking - I'm not getting at you, just my sense of humour.

The reason for us telling you the aerial mostly being on the roof line is because 99.9% of transits aren't motorhomes or cab-chassis....if you don't tell us, how do you expect us to know..??

Ah but even cab chassis have them on the roof unless it's a motor home obviously
And to be humorously pedantic, from which part of you original post were we supposed to know it was a motor home? I'm not that familiar with them

Info is king & hindsite is usually 20-20

My guess is it's not Ford factory option. Rather it's been fitted by the previous owner.
The previous owner being the manufacturer of the coachbuilt motor home they stuck on the top of a chassis cab
But am happy to be corrected and learn something new. Everydays a school day

Many thanks for all your replies: Humerous, carping, informative, questioning.
All are welcome and taken in good spirit.

I still stand by my original statement:

"black plastic housing out of which also protrudes the nearside wing mirror"

Anyway, here are the piccies:

You will see that it is Ford original fitment.

Luton’s and motorhome Chassis have radio aerial in passenger side mirror trim.

Aerial is bolted on from behind plastic

To access behind plastic mirror assembly has to be removed, but mirror is fitted with shear head bolts, so to remove mirror standard procedure is to break the plastic off then chisel the bolts out the mirror,
Then supply and fit a new mirror, after fixing the aerial!!!!

Thanks Ake.

What I might do is forget about the wing mirror aerial.

I will get the roof-mounted type and mount it on the glass fibre sloping roof front.
I can access behind to stick aluminium foil as a ground plane.
I will also need the longer aerial lead.

Can anyone help with the part numbers for those please?
