Auto Start/Stop not working on mk7

Postby riauba » Wed Jul 11, 2018 9:49 am

As per title. Bought 2012 van having this feature, but it doesn't work. Read on the some troubleshoots, they suggest that eco button would flash if there was problem with it. Checked under the seat, and the rear battery looks original ford one, front one was replaced at some point with aftermarket one. In order to start the van I think only rear battery is used, and it looks proper to me. Ids didn't show anything either. Can it be that it was disabled at some point? Which section on IDS I need to enable? Didn't even see Start/stop on the list. I know most hate this feature, but my vans does lots of starts stops, drivers even not bother to stop the engines while load unload, so open van but non runner engine wouldn't attract thieves, and maybe save a couple pounds a week.

I'm not even too sure auto stop-start was an option on the 2012 models.....??? Is it a Euro-5 model..??

Both batteries are connected for start, after that only the front battery is used to run all the electrics, that's why the front battery usually fails first....if you've got 6 years out of a battery, you've done well.

Not on the van, but I have this on two of the Ford cars that I have.

It doesn't work if the battery is the slightest bit weak or discharged, and only works when the car has been running for a while. If you're stop/starting, as in a traffic jam, it will stop working after a while because the battery has done too many starts without re-charging adequately.
You should also have an EFB or an AGM battery fitted for it to work properly :(

yes it's euro 5 van registered 28.12.12, looking at etis it's equiped, and there is eco button, and start/stop light comes on for a few seconds along with other dash lights when switching ignition on.7

and if it batteries, then my guess coupe hundreds for proper ones? I got 5 series bmw, and i needed to code in new battery when replaced, how about transit?

Fair enough...so what altransit and Punto have said is the way to go.

The thing I don’t like about stop start is your traveling in fast moving traffic all of a sudden you came to halt and stop the engine switches off the turbo is spinning and suddenly gets no oil pressure the first thing I was told when I started driving trucks was to let them tick over and let turbo slow down and knowing how delivery drivers rocket round town it’s not going to do the turbo any good

We've got a Mk8 that had it disabled, 'cos as said above, it would stop stopping after a few minutes of slow town traffic - plus not good for cold engines .....

It would wait a few seconds at idle before shutting off - I guess to let the turbo spool down(?) - before cutting. Usually just at the point the traffic in front moved off .......

I first encountered it on my sons' automatic Caddy van; it cut out, just as you said Jim, as I went to pull out of a junction into traffic  It was a bit of a shock at the time, and hard to stop it happening on an auto, but on the manual which I now have, you just keep the clutch down which stops it (apart from turning it off on the dash switch!)

I also hate the antistall on the mk8 it puts to many revs on if you are Manoeuvering in tight places you have to slip the clutch to keep the speed down with the mk8 high diff ratio I wish it could be turned off theirs too many driver aids on modern vehicles then again I’m maybe just an old Luddite :D

If it’s got the wrong batteries fitted stop start won’t work

If the start battery is original it’s probably about knackered

Two new Ford batteries will get it working again, if that’s what you want

this was fixed by changing the battery, sad, as it never had starting issues.

My stop start stopped working and I put it down to flat front battery although no other symptoms.
Took it to Ford for a service and security gypsy'update and when it came back it has worked ever since 8)
Neutral and clutch up and stopped and it cuts the engine with a little green warning lamp, dip clutch again and engine starts.
All good :D perhaps that's why there's no c02 in sainsburys?

Maybe Ford replaced the battery? 8)
