Elusive Pollen Filter

Postby WarthogARJ » Wed Jul 11, 2018 11:37 pm

Hi,
I saw an earlier post about this:
viewtopic.php?f=5&t=86547

But no really helpful info, and some of what was posted was in fact wrong according to the Ford 7zap, Haynes as well as the online Ford manual.

7zap says there is a pollen filter in all Mk6 vns from 04-01-2000 until 17-12-2006.
Is part number 1459009.

It’s a bit fuzzy about how you access, clean/change this filter though.
Both Haynes and online Ford say you remove the windscreen cowel panel.
And have really bad photos/diagrams about it.

So does anyone running a 2000-2006 Transit ever service/clean/renew their pollen filter?

Or even know it exists?
Seems like a great idea to be able to filter the air that comes in: many Transits are used in built-up areas with lots of diesels emitting lots of bad stuff....hmmmm.....like mine.

My van has a pollen filter :D only changed it once as it's a tw@t to get too :x on FWD you have to remove the metal turbo heat shield then right under the windscreen panel is a long thin door thing, unclip that and the pollen filter lives in there, it's a stupid hidden place so most never get changed  not sure if the RWD have the metal heat shield. Ok thanks.
Yeah i was looking around my engine compartment and was wondering what that funny plastic housing was.
After a bit of digging i thought it was the pollen filter.
But it is indeed not very easy to get at.

I agree: really stupid design by Ford.

But it’s in keeping with the rest of the vehicle: it’s full of bad designs.
You can sure why US motor companies are in such bad shape compared to Japanese or Korean.

The Transit’s only saving grace is a good engine, from what I can see.
And it’s cheap.

Not sure what year they stopped fitting them, but my 2004 didn't have one :)

The Mk7 is much easier, being in the air intake, under the bonnet.

What’s a didi dash?

I did order a pollen filter for £10 to see what it was like.
In theory mine takes one.
But still dunno where I’d put the one that came.

However there is a place for quite a long thin one, right where the inlet to the cabin circulation is, right under the cowl.
There wasn’t one there though.

Stick your head right in near the fuel filter and look up, that's where my lives. N

Us REAL gentlemen don’t need to wear gloves because we don’t get our hands dirty....we get the lesser mortals donthe dirty stuff for us.
So we never use the glove box...

And i am still looking to see if i really have a pollen filter, or an easy way i could add one.
Have Mk6 2004 TD 2.0 no aircon.
For fun i bought one for £8 that supposedly fits my van, but still holding in my hand cannot see where it goes.

Ok thanks.
The inlet to my cabin air system has a sortof bracket built into it where you could filt some sort of pollen filter, but it needs to be much thinner than the one i got.
Perhaps i will just cut that one down and use it.
Is not a big deal, i was really just interested initially if i did have one that it was going to be very dirty, so was going to at least clean it, even discard it.
