Will this be a write off?

Postby dantranvan » Sun Jul 15, 2018 5:20 pm

Really hope not as trying to find good vans locally can be a nightmare.
Mrs caught a stone wall. Door wont open but horn goes off when locking so obviously thinks its open

You can always repair it yourself get a second hand door and get local body shop to repair it if you can’t do it yourself and don’t tell the insurance

By time you pay few hundred for the insurance access just sort it yourself. Should be easy to find a white door and repair the rest yourself

Right now I don't have time to mess about looking for a new door and fitting it and as her excess is only £100 (text me saying she'd pay it so I'm covered there  )
Hopefully can get it sorted out asap as Im supposed to be away in it in less than 2 weeks and still need to put all the loading area back together

i bet you could sort the horn going off for now by adjusting where the striker hits the door

i would just get a new door and a tub of filler for the arch when you get time (at least its white)

good chance that will write the van off :(

For now I'm taking the horn fuse out before locking it. As I said, right now I don't have time to get a new door and start messing about trying to fix it myself with filler. As you'll see in my project thread, bodywork and painting are what I'm probably most sh*t at

Surely I as the policy holder wont lose my NCB when its protected and the claim is by a named driver?

protected NCB is a load of BS they still load up the policy when you have had a claim
no claims is still just a discount on a figure they decide, double it then still give 50% off etc.

the claim will still be your policy a named driver on your policy, still you making the claim :(

FFS genuinely don't know what to do now :(
Makes you wonder what the point of fully comp insurance and NCB protection is.

So general consensus is to see if I can find a bodyshop to repair it and my mrs take the hit?

Find a sliding door that doesn't need painted then you can replace the sill if it's too far gone and while the doors off it gives better access to to hammer the rear quarter so it just needs a skim of filler and then get a quote

Right, I've managed to get the door to open by turning this handle on the inside. However the van still wont lock and unlock off the remote.
Worst case scenario short term is to always lock the side door from the inside, crawl out the back somehow and then lock it. Reverse the process to get back in.

Then saw this cable attached to the lock. Is it supposed to sit inside the metal v somehow? Has the impact perhaps just knocked this out of place stopping the door lock from working?

If this will fix the door issue, the bodywork can wait until it can be fitted in with her paying for it and me chipping in a few quid to get the other bits done that needed doing anyway
