Do wheel bearings need to be replaced in pairs?

Postby Tcollings » Mon Jul 16, 2018 7:36 pm

Hi guys,

I've got a mk6 transit. Failed MOT on front offside wheel bearing today. Is it advisable to replace both of them if im going to do one? Is the other one likely to go soon?

Thanks,

Tom

You don’t have to replace both but if one is gone the other won’t be far behind but it depends on your £ situation for all a hub costs might as well do both

I would say no. I think they are an all sealed type.

They should last pretty much forever unless there's been contamination or water ingress.

I agree after all if you only recently bought a van the other wheel bearing may have being replaced recently before you owned it and you are replacing a perfectly good bearing for no reason,if there is no play and spinning freely I should be fine.

You will find the ns wheel bearing will last a lot less than the os so changing them
In a pair all the time will gain you nothing like someone else said it’s probably already been done just make sure you clean the seat up in he hub and use plenty of copper Slip so you can get them off easier next time
just follow the onscreen instructions and it's fairly idiot proof...trouble is, we keep producing better idiots
