RCM

Postby Pete-gsxr » Sun Jul 22, 2018 5:26 pm

Seen as this is my first post ill introduce myself, Im Pete, 28, Yorkshire, Engineer by day and a track hooligan (GSXR1000) at the weekend. I bought my mk7 just to transport my bike and kip in at the track. I couldnt help myself and purchased a modified elm and downloaded forscan. Very handy software and highlighted a couple of issues ive since dealt with, onto the topic at hand..

OK i balls up, like a young kid with a new toy i messed with the RCM in forscan and now i have a flashing airbag light that i cannot remove.

Codes are;
B1933
B1881
B2477

I have tried all manor of things none of which have worked hence my cry for help.

I have searched this forum and have arrived at the conclusion i either need the module reconfiguring or replacing. It was working perfectly well before i messed with it and now its looking for airbags i dont have.

After having a browse online there seems to be alot of variations of this module and i realise that chances of getting the exact module im after from the scrappers are slim.

The idea of being bent over at ford is a grim one and im not made of money so can anyone pull me out the sticky stuff and reconfigure my unit or help me do so?

Thanks

Easiest way is to replace the rcm with any from a mk7 but that have single airbag. 90% are single.

If your rcm is numbered AE then there is a slim possibility that it can be reconfigured using ids and special menu. The rcm in the breakers will be 25-45 pounds gbp usually.

Thanks for your reply loot,

My rcm is indeed labelled AE though i have seen some labelled with AD, are they compatible with each other?

It seems it can be reconfigured but translating various languages on the forscan forum is time consuming for no real solution. Im going to have another go and see if i can solve the configuration issue but i think im 'p*ssing in the wind' without ids.

I plan on going to the breakers and having a rummage to locate another rcm as there doesnt seem to be an immediate solution.

I was able to reconfigure an AE rcm but not an AD rcm. Only did it the once though so it is speculation tbh. AD and AE are compatible yes and both can be reconfigured to twin setup, but only AE can be reprogrammed back.
I only did it once though Lol.

Others might have had more success though with different kit. No idea if forscan can do it either?

Or just but 1 and plug it in :-)

Well after another couple of hours fiddling and trying different things on forscan i am no further forward and still at square one :D

It looks like another rcm is the immediate solution right now so ill keep my eyes peeled for both AE&AD units and get a couple of backups whilst im at it..

Thanks for your help

Get the AE as you might figure out how to reconfigure them and sell them on, AD are twin airbags for sale

I wouldn't mind an AE as a spare, you never know when you'll muck it up by playing with the diagnostics
