old engine, its doenst know the egr is blanked off. otherwise it would trow a fit almost immediatly.

i have driven 30k so far with the egr blanked off. never a single issue apart from a huge black spot in my backyard (and a pissed off wife) from the crud i removed from the manifold.

If you get one download forscan for free onto a laptop, you can then see fuel rail pressure, cam and crank sinc ect, it'll give you an idea of what's going on. N

No, in no way.

--------------------------------------------------------------
Second think - EGR in Mk6 2,0 tdci (and in 2,4 tdci) hasn't position sensor, so for blanking is enough to disconnect vacu pipe from EGR servo port - EGR will stay closed whole time. It is only two minutes of work - no plate. Only vacu pipe must be closed. Simply and easy. But in tddi models EGR has position sensor and for blanking it's necessary metal plate.

Have they told you its just the fuel pump?

Is your van defiantly a tdci?

Tdci the fuel is controlled by the injectors, the injectors tell the pump as and when they want fuel so if it is your pump that has gone you will also require a set of injectors, a full fuel system flush including tank and new fuel filter (2 micron).

When the high pressure pump fails it breaks up internally filling the injectors and fuel system with tiny metal filings, if there are no metal filing in the fuel filter I still stand by my first suggestion that its the injectors at fault. N

He said it’s the pump that’s gona coz it’s not gona start an it’s like the fuel isn’t gettin pushed throu but when I cracked open the fuel pipes to the injectors the fuel was squirting out when it was getting cranked over couse I thout it was a air lock that’s why it wasent starting

Yeas it’s a tdci it’s got the coded injectors

Do u think it’s the injectors ned I took the fuel fillter off an it was clean with no metal bits in it well not that I can see and it was running fine until I changed over the bit at the back of the pump that meters the fuel I will go an c him be Ouse I don’t want to pay for a fuel pump when it’s not that and I think you are rite Ned with the injectors being the fault

I don't want you spending money on a pump then to be told its injectors as its an expensive guessing game £450 for the pump and £120 each for reman injectors or £160 each new plus labour.

When my injectors fooked up the van wouldn't start, it only ran on easy start until it burnt the go juice then it would stall, if you have fuel at the injectors then the pump is supplying the fuel, even if the fuel rail pressure is lower then expected it should still start eventually.

I feel your pain as I have been there, as soon as I fitted 4 new injectors and coded them in my van started first turn of the key.

Also DONT crack open the injectors when cranking the fuel system is a high pressure system so no only will it reduce fuel pressure but could cause you harm, the tdci will purge air out itself once running.

Personally I would plug the elm327 in and get some live data, the forscan program is very good and you can look at what each injector is doing on cranking.

As you say all was fine before you changed the IMV so 1, check the wiring to the IMV, 2, try putting the old one back in and see what happens, just a few idea before you part with fists full of cash. N

I will go and see him tomorrow and tell him to check the injectors on the code reader I think it is the injectors as u say you have had the same problem as I have and I don’t want to pay for something that it isent the problem I have ordered the elm327 an I will put that in my van with my laptop and make sure I am gona have to replace the right thing that’s cousin the problem with my van and I won’t open the fuel line again as wot u have said about the pressure. I have put the old one back in an it didn’t do anything it wouldn’t start with it in so I think you’re right with the injectors as it done the same as yours started with easy start then once it burnt it out the van ticked over ruff as hell then cut out an wouldn’t start again thnkas fir all your input an help Ned and I am from Fife

Fife is a wee bit to far from me other wise I could have popped over with a spare set of injectors to try  hope you get the van up and running soon, PF Jones are very good for reman injectors and very helpful. N
