Power Steering problems

I noticed a whining noise at lower speeds which turned out to be a leak in the power steering pipe.

A garage recently replaced this for me and have said that the fluid levels were low and black. They flushed them through, but the noise is still present. They have said that there may be damage to the rack or the pump as a result of the fluids being low.

I just wanted to see what other people think... Is it worth driving it around to see if the noise disappears? Also will it cause further damage if I do a 6 hour drive tomorrow in this condition?

Make sure its the correct fluid thats in it

I replaced my pipes as they were rusted through. Replaced the fluid as well. Bloody thing used to whine all the time when the fluid needed topping up, but once the pipes and fluid were replaced, all is now ok.
