1st post problem

Postby Big al 74 » Sat Aug 18, 2018 9:59 am

Hi All.

Its my 1st post. I'll try and explain all as best as i can.
I have a 2007 swb diesel 2.2 fwd.

Monday engine was unusually rattley. I checked oil and was unusually low.
It took 3ltrs to come 3/4 up the dipstick.

It didnt quieten the rattle. 40mins later i broke down. Got towed home and after inspection found 2 very loose injectors on same clamp.
I removed injectors used a reseating tool fitted new copper washers and new stretch bolt and refitted.

Started engine, sounded lovely and quiet. Ticked over for 10mins then surged a bit. Gave it a little rev then ...... pow RUNAWAY! turned off key nothing, so stalled it. All withing 4 seconds.

Took off intercooler pipes each side, little bit of oil dripped out. Took off top turbo pipe, bit wet with oil and inside turbo. Inner fan does not wobble. (Replaced turbo last year second hand tho)

Question is are the 2 problems the result of 1 issue..... some sort of over pressure ???

Many thanks

Possibly, diesel will have been leaking into the sump, thinning the oil and causing wear. This could have lead to the turbo seals failing and the runaway.

I’d be doing a compression test to check for internal damage.

Could it be the fuel pressure valves (×3) /regulators (1 on pump 2 on fuel rail) ?

No...these will not cause a "Runaway".
