A/C compressor- do you need to replace it ?

Postby Ozvan » Sat Mar 23, 2024 6:01 am

I am refurbishing a 2008 mk7 2.4 .
This van hasn't ran for a few years, as I will fit a new motor to it and looking how difficult it is to replace the A/C comp in situ, I wonder if it is not better to buy a new comp now.
Or do you think that the original comp with 300.000 kms in it, could be still up to the task ? I can hear no bad noises when turning it by hand see no previous leaks and the magnetic drive clicks ok.
Thanks in advance.

Unlikely the A/C compressor has done the full 300k kms....most of it's life is spent going along for the ride not being used....only the pulley does all the work....we rarely have the A/C running 100% of the time, I'd suggest it would be less than 20%.

I’d take it for a regas and see what happens not removed a mk7 compressor but when I removed my mk 6 to change the pipe work it was easy take it off with the pipes still on it came off very easy all you got to lose is the cost of a regas
