I think I cut through a ground lead

Postby Tamulet » Fri Apr 26, 2024 11:26 am

Hey all, first time posting! I'm Tam, I've been slowly repairing my Transit for the past few months, starting with next to zero experience or knowledge! Been finding this forum very helpful so glad to be emerging from lurker status.

I was cutting some patches of rust out of the floor of my Mk7 (2008), close to the right-hand wheel arch. Among the debris under the van I found this yellow and green (i.e. earth / ground in the UK) wire terminal, looking like I'd cut through it. I have since charged the van's battery and it reached max charge suspiciously quickly, which leads me to believe there is indeed charge building up on the negative terminal (?).

I obviously want to rewire it, but can't for the life of me find where it came from. I have to assume it was routed under the floor, between the steel sheet and its underbody coating. Can anyone tell me whether there is indeed a ground connection in this region and, if so, where I might be able to find it?

Soprry but your not making much sense ,

All factory wires run in bundles allong the side to roff area, nothing lower

Sounds more like the wire you have found is nothing to do with the van and is a pice of 240 v earth wire that’s been left in the van by a former owner

As Dumper says, green/yellow is domestic earth wire that doesn't belong in your van, unless the wiring has been bodged by a previous owner.

green and yellow is a perfectly plausible wiring colour for a ford car loom.

depends what it looks like.
