MK 7 2009 Ford transit Alternator not charging

Postby seboz55 » Fri Apr 26, 2024 5:12 pm

Hi everyone,

I have a 2009 Ford Transit with two batteries that recently stopped charging. I installed a new alternator and new batteries as they were old and the original. However, the battery still isn't charging.

I've checked all the fuses and swapped around the relays. I also replaced the alternator wire that goes to the starter and the cable from the starter motor to the engine fuse box, as they were slightly corroded, but still no luck.

Interestingly, when I rev the engine, the voltage slightly drops instead of increasing. Has anyone experienced something similar or have any suggestions on what to try next? I'm running out of ideas and could really use some help.

Thanks in advance!

Have you checked the earth connections?

The main battery earth to the front right (drivers) seat bolt is prone to corrosion, but is not the only possible culprit.

New alternators have been known to be faulty out of the box

1997 Mk5 SWB 115 Minibus 70ps Di (Gone, but not forgotten!)
2004 Mk6 SWB T280 Medium Roof 85PS 2.0 TDDi - Vantunered (Also gone)
2008 Mk7 SWB T280 Medium Roof 85PS 2.2 TDCi - Also Vantunered
