Recall 350 rwd Mk6

Postby Muddy Trucker » Thu Apr 03, 2008 7:09 pm

I had a few letters from FMC today recalling some of the fleet , 54 and 05 ,350 rwd vans , They state that the rear half shaft retaining clip can fail and the hub "walks out ", Im getting them booked in so Mr Coconut I will be in for a coffee soon

Has anybody experienced any Hub walk outs and retaining clip failure ?

We also had 2 letters today and the stealers want each van for 2 days, one to strip and order parts and then second hopefully to put together again.
Surely if the vehicle is booked in in their normal three weeks time and they know what the fault is why can they not get the bits in first so they could do the job in 1 day and of course free up their precious workshop?

If your dealer has read the recall correctly and has already done one, you use the 1st van to order all the parts against (even if you dont use them) so you have all the nessasary shims/oils/sealer and clips to use on the next van, which you then order for the next one and so on and so on so they are in, measured and shimed if needed and fixed within a couple of hours (unless it needs halfshafts which then needs to be ordered)

Either put your reg or chassis number on here, or you can PM it to me and I will check for you, or you can phone a dealer

The recall only applies to single wheel 'salisbury' type axles NOT twin wheel or DANA :!:

Coconut, u been able to fit any shims in that Dish thing yet? Everyone that i have done has been ok and wud not fit any shims into it. it seems like a stupid recall really as it will still only wear down the ends of the shafts and if u cud fit shims in wud then wear them down too eventually.

Completely pi$$ed off with doing these recall now

Done a few now which have had to have shims fitted, only had to fit 1.7's, nothing bigger yet, but they have been on the mega milage vans.

Yep, it will still wear the ends of the shafts, but its has to wear about 4mm off before they are u/s

It has the axle shaft end play recall outstanding (not really a surprise being an ex northgate vehicle  )
Just get it booked in to your local dealer and it'll be done under warranty :D
