Help with 2.4 Duratorq RWD Mk 6

Postby starcott » Fri May 09, 2008 10:16 pm

I would appreciate any help with the following for my 05 Mk 6 2.4 chassis cab:

1. What is the engine oil capacity?
2. How do I adjust the hand brake?
3. I can detect a noise, like a low pitched whistle, which appears to be coming from the engine. It is only noticed when increasing the revs by a few hundred from idle. Is this normal? What is it likely to be?

Thank you.

1. 7 litres with oil filter, 6.5 without

2. proper way is to take the rear brake drums off and clean/adjust the shoes or the bodge way is tighten up the adjustment nut on the handbrake cable :!:

3. is it lacking on power, does it sound worse when under load :?: if not, its probably just the turbo whistling

Thank you for those answers.

When you say the adjustment nut on the handbrake cable, would that be the nut on the central rod, which goes through the middle of the bar holding the ends of the cables to the rear drum?

Have done the adjustment; tightening up the 13 mm nut was quite easy while holding the end of the threaded rod in mole grips.
However there does not appear to be any way of locking the 13 mm nut in position. What stops it from moving out of adjustment?
