mk6 diesel knocking sound

Postby hardgrafter » Tue May 12, 2009 8:18 pm

Hi gang been away a while!

just got hold of a 2003 swb t280 h/r 90k for a grand but it has a problem, on tickover it knocks but rev it and it quiets down, drives as it should and pulls well oil light goes out instantly on starting.

I suspected the dual mass but its not that sort of noise more a heavy diesel knock, vendor has produced a receipt for new injectors and a service, so i am at a loss any ideas lads???

I wouldn't say timing solenoid as that usually has DTC's attatched and there would be a noticible reduction in power.
FWD or RWD :?: What ps engine :?:

Quite right, usually 2 codes no light though. Reduced fueling code, which lowers the power and a pump timing code.
Did i not see an old thread with this where there was no loss of power?

I had the 2 codes, loss of power but no knock and ended up with a new pump.I was informed had it knocked on tick over it may well have been the solonoid but not without the knock.

I have to admit it doesnt quite fit with no loss of power.

Looks like some investigation has been done by previous owner who looks like they have bailed.Maybe they were informed of the biggy, the pump.

SORTED, yes it was the pump timing solenoid, had to destroy the old one to get it out, pig of a job!
Runs great now. Thanks for the advice.
