Management lights and limp modes are designed to save an engine not wreck it m8. I doubt hes done any real harm if he doesnt drive it like that all the time

I know what the limp mode etc. is for and thats what im trying to say. The map he has on the van (box thing) is obviously not suited perfectly cos a proper map wouldnt put the light on at all unless there is a real problem with the van itself. That is why i personally dont believe in these chips or boxes. :)

Have you ever used one?

Not personally no but know of people that have used them and they agree that they think a proper map is better. That is why i had mine done. Like u say mate there a bit of difference money wise between a custom map and an add-on type but i just think it is worth the extra. :)

I tend to agree with fedup2 on this one nearly all the doubters on tuning boxs have never fitted or used them as i said in my previous posts i ran a range rover for over two years with a box and had no trouble at all, my van did throw up the mill light but never went into limp home mode as i could drive it normally even after the light came on, i also remember a post where even vantuner said he has had the mill light come on on some of his tunes on some of the larger mk7 engines and the fact that Tunit has been in busines and growing worldwide for over 11 years must prove that they sell a topnotch product.
MK7 2006, 2.4 tdci, 140ps + TUNIT box = 165ps jumbo rwd known as "Big Blue" to the kids.

Nobody is disputing a map is better?
What gets my goat is people dissing boxes that have never used one and have nothing to back up there 'you vans going to blow up nonsence' that is often spouted.
Im still waiting for just one shread of evidence they HAVE caused damage to anything,i know in the hundreds of thousands of miles ive done using them the worst ive had is a temporay light!Thats fact not something ive seen someone say and just repeating it.
We all know Martin does an excellent job and if he was nearer i would have him do mine i may even travel, but the fact remains for £80 you can get a good power hike and when i say good i mean GOOD and of course you get to sell it when your done,or remove it if the need arises.
You could argue pound for bhp that a box is far far better and them that have fitted a good box know that!

do agree that the best thing is you can take the box back off and install it on another car/van whereas you cant with a map(unless you do a lot of messing around).
