BCM, can any Ford tech know where it is?

Postby dom115bhp350 » Fri Feb 18, 2011 9:35 pm

Can any Ford tech tell me where the body control module is?
I have big problems with mine but don't know where to find it.
Please help!

First the immobiliser wouldn't turn off, tried spare key still same, diconnected the front battery and it reset the immobiliser, next the dash stopped working, then the central locking stopped working (can't get in back of van at all), now the dash lights up as if the lights were on but turn the key in the ign and nothing happens!
Then when the van was running the engine stayed running with the key out until I pressed the brake peddle or clutch.
The dash problem was intermittent at first and seem to reset when turning ign off. Batteries are full charged and alternator is charging fine,
The van now will not turn over now. Ford mechanic says it's the body control module and it is £517+ vat. So I intend to take it off, and send it to an electronic specialist to see if there are any dry joints on the circuit board, I have nothing to loose as it's already broken!
I just didn't know where it was and what it looked like.

This is the worse van I have ever owned, so far in 30000miles that I have had it, it's had two egr valves, fuel prv, new fuel pipes under bonnet, reprogrammed ecu, injector recalabration twice, that's just to keep it running!
At 24,000 miles the front wheel bearing needed changing.
I had the van from ford direct, it was registered and used by ford!

no altransit that is not it, the bcmii to call it its proper name is the fuse box behind the glove box and it is programmed to the vehicle

i would ave said one of the batteries is duff. have they been tested properly or just charged.

all your problems of locking and dash lights coming on by themselves points to a bad battery.

u will get lots of bcmi communication fault codes when they are not powering up

Update.
One battery had flattened itself as a result of the immobiliser problem.
I removed the BCMI and had it looked at by an electronics man, he said it was a good example of the worse flow soldering he had every seen. He counted in excess of 50 badly soldered joints but could not find any worse than any other. He re-soldered all 50.
He said try it as I had nothing to loose (he didn't charge me as he's a mate).
Re-fitted BCMI, charged battery back up, and tried it.
It seems to have solved the immobiliser problem, the locking problem was a result of the battery being flat. But the dash problem still there.
It goes funny (all fault lights on and speedo not working, no milage display) above 20mph.
Also stopped at junction and the ABS came on when I don't think it was needed. Ie wheel not locking.
Drove van like this for a day and then it went alright for a while (all ok). Then halfway though next day, fault reappeared. Booked into Ford next week, so see what they say. I think ABS sensor or bad earth to sensor or ABS control unit. PS. Batteries are both good, charged and alternator is good.
I still say a ford tech must have seen this dash problem before.
