Bad Vibration at 60-80mph, no noise tho?

Postby golfynut » Thu Apr 04, 2013 10:02 pm

Hi, I've got a 2007 110ps connect and get a bad vibration through the cabin floor at motorway speeds. There is no noise with it (apart from the bloody van shaking to bits) and the steering wheel is still. Nothing through the pedals and brakes in a straight line?? It does get worse under load but then fades at 80 plus. Has anyone any experience or knowledge of this problem and any possible causes? Thanks

Possibly worn O/S driveshaft bearing ? As it can cause vibration issues

Check here as it may be listed

I'd at least take a look at both rear wheels/tyres and make sure they are worn even. My mate had a similar issue and turned out to be a bulge in one of his tyres :/

Mine is doing this too but at 60mph, under load it is shaking like hell but once I lift of the throttle it disappears. Checked all tyres etc and nothing noticeable. It's going into garage Monday

Thanks for all the possibilities. It turned out to be the flywheel which in turn had shagged the engine mount. All good now

Hello,

I too am having this same issue. Between 60 and 70mph there is a bad vibration through the steering wheel which disappears when you let off the throttle. Would be very keen to know what could be causing this as its very uncomfortable.

Thanks, Ollie

Had mine into garage few weeks ago for same problem.
Mechanic took out and Inspected both driveshafts, he said he could find nothing wrong with them so replaced them and road tested the van and The vibration had completely disappeared!

It stayed this way for for a few days and now its back again :(

Keith, did he check the bearings on the half shaft or whatever it is on the long sides one coming out the gearbox?

Had my van in to another garage for this problem today as i wasnt happy with the outcome from the last Garage.
It was the N/S driveshaft that was causing the vibrating, 2 of the 3 bearings within the rubber boot nearest the gearbox had collapsed. I've gotten the van back tonight and yes I'm pleased the vibration has stopped

However the van is wandering all over the road now. Trying to drive it down the dual carrage way and its all over the place, when I accelerate it pulls to the right and i find myself steering left to keep it in a straight line, of cause when lifting off the throttle to change gear it pulls left due to compensating while accelerating.
If I accelerate hard in 2nd it pulls violently over to the other side of the road.

Spoke t the mechanic on the phone when I got home and he said "I've road tested it and its normal tondo that its called torque, the ford boys get it alot and just compensate with the steering. What a load of bollocks its an 18 diesel not a focus rs!!!

Needless to say I'm friggin fuming with mechanics!!

I'm taking it for tracking in morn to see if this corrects it.

Any ideas what would cause this???

Cheers
