2008 TDci 110ps Fuel leak at pump to rail pipe

Postby Tdci_boy » Tue May 14, 2013 10:17 pm

I am the proud owner of a 2008 230T110 TDci LX LWB High roof Connect, I have been chuffed to bits till tonight, it's broke down :-( the High pressure pipe running from the pump to the distributor rail has sprung a leak near the pump, it would appear this pipe has been replaced recently :-( is this a problem area on the TDci engines ?

I must say I do find it odd, the fuel is clearly escaping between the nut & the pipe so I am definitely not mistaken, just seems so odd that the one coming off looks so new, weird or what

 Is the end of the pipe damaged by being fitted badly :?:

Experience of this could be incorrect fitting, bad vibration or poor quality pipe or not being torqued to the correct value.
If its not fitted correctly then you can crush the olive on the pipe and causing it to become weak.

When I first got home after breaking down I did find the pipe not to be as tight as I expected :-( I tightened it further but to no avail :-( I removed the pipe but there was no obvious sign of damage so I refitted it hoping that might cure it, sadly no :-( ill ring my local ford dealer tomorrow and see what if any stock they have, I must admit they are normally quite good :-) ill also ask if its a high stock turnover part if its in stock, ill keep you informed :-)
I must admit the fuel mpg so far is better than the std 90 ps vans I have driven or hired, the first full prior to a ford parts and oil service I gave it was 37.7mpg after the service (air filter was black) it was 41.7mpg :-) with the aircon on too and it goes like a rocket :-)

Here is an update to this little issue, I spoke to the local dealer and they have never ever stocked this pipe, nor ever sold this pipe so it's probably not a problem part, I have looked back through the service history list that came with the vehicle and at 88000 miles this pipe was changed by a Halfords auto centre, why it was changed then I have no idea, why this one failed, my theory at the mo is it was never tight enough when replaced and has either worn or cracked and then leaked, am I right ? Who knows, only time will tell, the part cost £23 so not too bad, I now have to replace the glow plug busbar loom cause its got rather hot and melted at the bolt !

I have the same spec and my connector melted at 40000 miles and a few weeks out of warranty!
Ford dealer repaired it but connection wasnt robust enough so I re crimped it myself and added a big more heat resistent tape.
