Problem with stiff gearshift

Hi all don't post on here much but always have a look in. I'm after some help or advice my connect this morning leaving for work developed a problem finding the gears the gear stick become very stiff to get any gear and happened very quickly managed to find 2nd to get back home but have never had any problems before this even the day before any ideas what this could be don't really want to be looking at a new gearbox. many thanks Dave.

First guess would be failed or failing slave cylinder (inside the gearbox). Second guess would be failing master cylinder (down above the pedals) but this usually manifests itself with leaking fluid first which would collect in the footwell. Not much fluid but a noticable oily residue on the floor.

Thanks for the reply have no idea on this sort of thing myself but will mention what you said to the guy who's looking at it for me tomorrow

Problem solved need new cable to gearbox totally seized. Happy I don't need a gearbox
