Esp malfunction.....Please help.

Postby yidboy69 » Mon Oct 27, 2014 6:28 pm

Have had an intermittent esp malfunction on an 09 T200 and some lumping in between. Van goes into limp mode each time but several restarts gets it going again. There are no fault codes showing. Just been checked in the garage but basic and nothing found. What sort of tests should I pay for to avoid wasting time? ABS sensors? Thanks.

Had the van looked at today and the fault codes are pointing to the abs unit itself and ecu?? Any ideas on the price of a new unit? Apparently you can get them repaired but it takes days??

Okay. ..The codes are:
U0401 and u2101

Invalid data from control mod and acceleration system sensor.

Difficult to read the mechanic's writing but may be code u0001 or u6001.

Thanks.

U0401 INVALID DATA RECEIVED FROM ECM / PCM "A"
U0001 HIGH SPEED CAN COMMUNICATION BUS

U2101 &U6001 are not listed in Connects DTC index...

DTC's starting with U are for communications

Try another device to read DTC's. I assume your connect is a 2009-2013 model - As they are the ones equipped with ABS/ESP.
you can read the DTC's yourself - see here for instructions  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7caZMWTA1so

As if there's a problem with ESP it will also effect ABS, but it won't effect engine... DTC's for ABS/ESP faults will start with C for example C1267 ABS functions temporarily disabled

E197 = U2197 Invalid data for Vehicle Speed
E200 = U2200 Invalid data for Odometer

Check wheel speed sensors -use a suitable device to read/clear DTC's & to find out which wheel speed sensor is faulty...

Bit of an update......

Had a reading from each sensor allegedy when it was in the garage. Had a back flow test on the injectors and they were all reasonably level. My problem is that the misfire only appears when the ESP malfunction is about to appear. I'll get the odd misfire in general use but when it gets bad it will go into limp mode with the ESP malfunction. Would a sensor fault give me the misfire? Does this suggest it's not an engine fault?

U code is network issue and it shows as CAN.

I would get some other ECU's scanned for DTC to see if any other ECU is effected as another DTC in another ECU may point you somewhere in the right direction. Have you had the steering wheel off or any tracking/suspension work done ? Reason for asking if if the steering angle sensor or lateral G/YAW sensor is out of sync this can cause similar issues.

You can check connectors for damaged pins, terminals, terminal tension and check for water ingress into plugs/connectors.

Okay guys.....Van back in to a new garage and diagnostic threw up code P 1203. A new back flow test was done but all was well. A Ford fuel filter has replaced the aftermarket one just in case. Any other suggestions as van is in one of o's good moods and running okay on test drive??
