Are ford taking the p**s????

Postby Smegmium » Sat May 30, 2015 9:48 am

My connect failed its MOT yesterday on a few little bits:

- 2x Anti-roll bar ball joint dust covers.
- 1x swivel hub ball joint dust cover.
- 1x track-rod end.

Rubber bits mostly.

So I called ford in Derby this morning and was greeted by an angry sounding man who said they dont sell any dust covers / gaiters AT ALL for ANY ford separately to the part it comes on. (So thats 2x ARB drop-links at god knows how much each, plus a single ball joint at over £100)
And that a track rod end was £66 + vat.

WHAT?

He's right, they dont sell just the dust covers, not a lot do

same as drive shaft gaiters they only sell gaiters in kit form for each drive shaft, in the kit your get 2 x gaiters and all the clips and the grease

As for the other parts:

Just think how long the original ford parts have lasted....

Go for the cheapest aftermarket parts, only to find they will need replacing again in a short period of time.

How do people rate Lemforder or Febi, these two are @ the upper end of aftermarket suppliers, the market place is flooded with cheap imported dross though so be careful

It is true about genuine parts being better, in some cases the pattern parts are so bad they are almost dangerous. Very much like some of the cheap hand tools you can buy nowadays, diabolical some of it. All the same some of the prices for the genuine parts are very hard to accept. I have just put new discs and pads on my front end and I did use genuine because I know the discs are good for 50,000 miles the way I drive. And going by the last pair, two, or maybe three sets of pads will last the discs. All these ball joints though are stupid prices, but as noted they are far superior to stuff like Veco. It's just a lot of money for people though, and a great many people simply don't have that kind of money readily available so have no option to buy pattern.

I use Lemforder on most of my customers vehicles as well as my own and never had and problems, my local Ford parts man told me Connect most Connect parts are stupidly expensive.

I use lemforder as well. Had a ARB link rod changed 3years ago and been absolutely fine and covered approximately 50,000miles.
