Diesel smell

Postby stugordon » Fri Dec 08, 2017 8:12 pm

Hi. Got a 07 plate connect. Great van does all I want from it. Recently I've started noticing a smell of diesel.
I've looked at the fuel tank & under the bonet for any obvious leaks but can't see anything wrong. There is no signs of diesel that are obvious so is there something I'm missing?
The van new to me so can't really say if it's using more fuel than normal. Fuel consumption is a little more then my previous connect but nothing to worry me. U think it's got the more powerful engine as its noticibly more pokie than my last one
Anyone have any ideas what could be the course this smell??
The last thing I want is the van going up in flames

Check the leak off pipes (fuel return pipes) on the injectors. These can sometimes be a pain. I had two that were leaking on a 2012 T200 75 Connect at work. It was the tiny circular seals that had gone, and two tiny jets of diesel were being sprayed over the front of the engine

Thanks guys.
I will check tomorrow to see if I can see any wet / oily areas on engine to see if leak off is the coarse. I can't see the exhaust being the problem as it still smells of diesel after being parked up for few hours etc.
I have had a quick look to see if I could see any wet or oily patches etc but all is dry & clean which is why I'm struggling to locate where the smell comes from.
Anyone else have any thoughts what or where to look for ??
Thank in advance guys

Have a look at he filler hose/breather hose to the tank
I had an advisory on this years MOT, and was told it had been found on another a few months ago.

Yes, two separate pipes next to each other, possibly perished or clips loose.

A place that leaked on mine, was the fuel sender unit.
The gasket/seal rotted, and as the sender sits in a recess on the tank, when the tank is full, it leaks into the recess.
By not filling the tank to the top, it stopped smelling.
The givaway sign was a damp outside to the tank, brought to my attention at the MOT.
