Electro Woes!

Postby kenwardc » Fri Jul 30, 2010 12:45 pm

Hi Folks

My little '06 Connect has just popped up with the most amazing problem and I've not got a clue what the cause is.

Drove it on Tuesday and all fine but last night I was just on the road when I looked at the fuel gauge and it was absolutely on empty. Big fright! Then I noticed that none of the dials on the dash were working - the temp gauge, the rev counter, the speedo and the electronic mileage, trip indicator. Nada - all absolutely dead. I then remember that when I'd started the van earlier, I'd noticed that the COIL symbol hadn't come up. She started OK so I assumed at the time I'd missed it and I thought it had probably gone out quickly. Noooo..... it's also on the list as not working.

The interior light, both in the cab and in the back, are no longer working either. However, all indicators, mail headlights, high beam, flashers, etc. are all working fine.

I've tried holding the trip meter in while turning on the ignition but everything is just dead and that has no effect on any of the dials.

I've been through the (badly labelled!) fuse boxes and can't find any fuse that has blown. Completely stumped.

I thought before I take this to a local dealer, I'd drop you all the question, so at least I have a feel for what could be causing this mysterious issue. Any help gratefully accepted folks!

Cheers

Did you check the fuse box behind the glove box?

This may or may not work but it is easy and worth a try. Disconnect the battery and wait about 5 minutes, then reconnect and see if normal service is resumed. This can sometimes reboot the electronics, its a trick i use to reboot programmable logic controllers when they get some of their signals messed up for various reasons, and the ECU is basically a smaller version of a PLC.

You need to leave it disconnected because some electronic components store a small charge, and this needs to discharge itself to clear any glitches.

Make sure you have the radio code before you disconnect the battery.
