WHAT A BARGAIN !

Just purchased a complete rear axle with disc brakes - removed from a 2011 Connect for a cool £150 from ebay :D 8) 8)

Everything is there including brake hoses, the only thing missing is the handbrake cable.

Nice one on the beam!

So today i started taking my dash apart:

Cut out a template from cardboard:

And checking clearance:

Drew the heater controls and DIN apature:

Transfered it over to some thin wood as its easier to use for templates than cardboard:

Image

And roughly cut out for trialing:

So ill carry on making it up then ill make it for real!

Added passengers seat Mk3 Mondeo St220 Recaro and made a nice sticker for the plate seat bolted too.

what is it you have done here? is it a steal plate with the seat welded to it and and bolted into the van?
I'm looking at getting some better seats for mine and i think this could be the solution to fitting some.

No welding mate.
Taken standard seats out, Got some metal plate, about 1/4 inch thick, and picked up the existing bolt holes in chassis.
Then worked out where the seat sits best on the plates and drilled and tapped thread into plate.
Bolted seat onto plate. If need to put original seats back in then plates just come out and seats bolts back onto floor plan.
Used 12.9 or 14.9 high tensile bolts for bolting plates and seats in. No worries about bolts snapping or ripping from threads.
Then I just powder coated the plates to make the finish much better and put a green sticker saying CONNECT to finish it off.

What sort of finish are you hoping to achieve with the surround?
Are you going for sprayed mdf or material covered etc? I'd imagine its going to be a bit of a headache coming up with a mounting solution that works well which enables you to remove the iPad?
I'm looking forward to seeing it finished :)

Also, if its 3G - apple are releasing turn by turn navigation with iOS6 so will be awesome to see that in the dash!

I use it for nav at the moment on a separate mount. Plan is to be able to drop it in from the top. ill have it skimmed and painted piano black with a flocked dash or Ill flock it once its done with the rest of the dash
