Popping Headlight Fuse on '54 Transit Connect

Postby jim123 » Wed Jun 27, 2012 5:34 pm

(Sorry....i popped this post on the main technical question page before i clocked the 'connect' page)

Evening All,

Everytime i turn my headlights on i end up popping the 7.5a fuse that's in there. I've checked all of the other fuses and they're ok so i'm stumped. Has anyone any other ideas?

I've checked the bulbs on the left and right side and they seem to be fine. The relay seems ok and the main beams work fine as well....

Help!

Thanks

Jim

You sure a 7.5a fuse is the right one ???

7.5A dose seem a bit low but if there is no bulbs in it should not blow,
Try it with the plugs off the headlights at the back

should be 10amp fuse
Don't knock it till you've tried it

I tried it with a 10amp fuse at the weekend but it ends up blowing another one somewhere else. Was working fine up to a short while ago and now it's getting to be a right pain in the back side. Thankfully it's summertime.

It may have been prompted by a bulb being replaced at it's last MOT a while ago but i can't think of anything else that would have caused it and now i'm stumped in sorting it out!

By doing that you will know if the fault is inside the headlight or not

can i ask if you have only just brought the van or if you have had the van long enough with the headlights working?

if you have only just brought the van you never know what previous owner has done to it.

if you have owned it time and it now blows fuses then have you been playing or doing any mods as 9/10 times in my experiance fuses do not just start blowing its mostly when peaple start to tinker!!

I've done no tinkering myself but i'm sure a bulb was changed on my mot so i've a feeling this is where it's come from.......whether or not they'll own up to it now is another matter though.

Disconnect the electrical multi plug from the back of the headlight and try a new fuse, if it stops blowing then the fault is inside the headlight if you have already tried it with the bulb out it could be the levelling motor that's shorting out. :)
