Won't go into gear

Hi guys, I am new to the forum. I own a 54 plate transit connect, a couple months ago it got quite difficult to put into (any) gear, but then after a few days it free'd up and went back to normal, now.. It has gotten so you cant pull it into gear if the engine is on. I called green flag, as i have cover, i thought i may aswel use it just to get there oppinion. They said the clutch is gone. I'm not mechanic but to me i thought the clutch usually slips loads etc before it goes (like i said i am no expect so excuse me if i sound ignorant) my thought is that the clutch is not engaging properly i did a little research before posting on here and i saw that a good place to start is by changing the transmission fluid and filter, does anyone agree with this or have any other suggestions. could be the selector on top of the gearbox if your van is front wheel drive.

Could well be the slave cylinder or something to do with the hydraulics as I they fail you can't engage or disengage the clutch to select a gear.
