Many thanks, I went to three garages around here and none of them had a clue they all thought it might be the gearbox.
I did an internet search for a ford specialist in Devon and for one near Brixham came up, they told me over the phone what it was, when it did it and also why (these engines have an imbalance between 1800 & 2000 rpm and it causes loose springs to vibrate). So hats off to them.

I have this annoying rattle/vibration on my 54 plate as well kicks in at about 1700rpm and goes exactly at 2000 rpm

Diff mechanics said exhaust/gearbox box mounts/drive shaft but has them all checked and they fine

Loose springs in the clutch i suppose would make more sense, what happens do these springs keep wearing and wearing until they fail?

My clutch is working perfect nice biting point no issues with it

Found the vibration/ rattle, turned out to be rear gearbox mount (dog bone), I was told everything from gearbox , clutch, driveshaft, exhaust, turbo etc. This part cost approx £15, try it first, cheers Andy

Ps way it was found was it only made noise going forward not in reverse, this is because engine and gearbox kicks one way forward and opposite way in reverse, because of the way the mount failed it would rub metal to metal going forward, try it, hope this helps
