Starter problems

Postby Rusbus » Fri Dec 27, 2013 12:48 pm

Electrical gurus please help, I've changed my starter due to solenoid not working and van still won't start on key, I can start it by jumping power across the terminals on the motor, is there a relay for this or is it ignition barrel controlled?

What year is your van, there is a relay for starter motor, for 02>06 its relay No1 in the fascia fuse box, also check the cable next to the battery some of the early ones had a problem with the cable rubbing through

Cant see it being an immobiliser problem, I dont think Ford would have just cut power to the starter for the immo, if that was the case most Ford that was parked on a hill would have been nicked as they rolled them down the hill and started them in gear

He's sorted it now so there's no need is there ????

That is exactly what I said:

"I dont think Ford would have just cut power to the starter for the immo"

the just meaning just the starter motor and nothing else, so think about it, if it started by connecting a 12 volt feed to the starter solenoid then its NOT going to be an immo problem is it
