Just bought an 05 Connect LWB TDCi 90ps... Issues!

Ok new filter fitted and probably better. Think I've found the real problem though. Got it up on ramps today and found the exhaust flexi section badly split, so new cat section needed. Will replace the exhaust at the same time as it's a bit iffy. Also checked in the turbo and I think it's probably not great. It was stiff to turn the compressor wheel, there was no play whatsoever on the wheel and the air pipes are well covered in oil. I was pouring it out of the inter cooler... Probably a bad thing right?

So could these two items be causing my symptoms? Am I burning a lot of oil at first from the turbo which then gets better as I drive as it gets burnt off? Is the exhaust blowing anything to do with it? Here's my compressor side:

Am I needing a whole new turbo too? :-)

I'll do it all for the fun of doing it so don't be afraid of telling me the good news! ;-)

Oil in intercooler in normal in small amounts & turbine in turbo should freely turn.

If stiff then turbo is no good especially if there's loads of oil in intercooler to the point where it pours out.

Blown turbo will result in lack of power

Hmmm... It felt like it had uneven resistance to turning, if you know what I mean. I suppose I up ended the inter cooler and a dribble came out. Is that too much?! :-). Certain ally need a new cat section! :-)

A dribble of oil, is nothing to worry about :D

Just read one of your previous posts & watched your vid. Problem with engine hesitant on acceleration & white smoke.

Turbo appears to be working fine, Sounds like EGR valve is not closing fully on acceleration :!:

As yours is a 2005 connect (Euro 3 engine) Fit a EGR blanking plate

Cat is very easy to replace. 4 nuts at the exhaust manifold, 1 bolt at the lower cat support bracket.
& 2 bolts securing it to exhaust middle section.

Interesting!!!!! Haven't heard that theory yet. Could the egr have a sticky action or something around this 1500 to 2000 rpm area? Definitely worth a try, and I was planning on cleaning out the manifold, so I might do that sooner now. I'll order the blanking plate when I order in the exhaust bits and give it a shot.

Also it definitely feels like the turbo is working. I can cane it to 70mph and and beyond no probs. inter cooler hoses are expanding on rev etc.

Had a theory on the stiff turbo today, the oil was pretty thick and black so thought if someone before me had used the wrong spec of shitty oil it might have gunged up the turbo. So as I don't know much about the service history I thought a good diesel oil flush and the right fully synth oil might start to put the situation right... Had worked on a few cars I have owned so thought can't do any harm. Wynns diesel flush for 10mins at 2000rpm, then drain, flushed with a litre of oil, then new filter and refill. Have to admit there was a difference from before with the engine feeling a bit more responsive. Also think it was a bit overfilled from before. It's right now.

Also got the cat down section and egr blanking plate ordered today so will see how things shape up when they arrive.

Question... If I take the inlet manifold off to clean it out, the exhaust manifold has to detach too. Do I need to reinstall with gaskets?!

Exhaust manifold off first then inlet. I'd replace the gaskets as a matter of course. For the price they are might aswell do it all properly.

Ok that's the egr blanking plate in. Not any different yet. Check this filter out though... Is this totally wrong?
