Fitting a larger light in rear interior of Transit Connect?

Postby coffee_king » Tue Apr 08, 2014 9:31 am

Hey all
Whats everyone been buying to replace the existing "Not bright enough" rear interior light in a FTC?
The original is just not bright/big enough to be able to find stuff in the back.

Cheers

12v waterproof led self adhesive tape. Wire it struggle to te existing wiring with a couple of connectors and you have a floodlit cargo area. 5metres will go all around the SWB but it will stop 30cm of a full circuit on a lwb.

I replaced the bulb with whiter brighter one. I also have a couple if strip lights over the side and rear doors which are wired from the rear 12v cabling. They come on manually or when the doors open.

On my 2008 Connect there's a hole above the rear doors that a second interior light would fit straight into.

With two interior lights it would be twice as bright, and would only require one wire connected to the existing interior light, to make it work.

In my connect the wiring for that light was already there, you just need to find the loom that runs along the OS top part of the van, you can find it by following the wiring from the middle lamp and you should find it taped up to the main loom, all you'll need to do is untape it and plug in a lamp :)

Same here Carl. I think the extra light was about £10, and then I bought 4x bright led bulbs to fit in - result is really bright and also neat and original looking.

Must cost Ford more in time to tape the wire up than it would for the 50p they'd pay for the light.

if it's light you're after getting the standard ford (light assuming you have the wiring) for £10 is a good shout, however if you're after real light i wouldn't bother and spend £39 on this

I ended up getting the LWB kit, i'm a furniture dealer and often have weird and wonderful kit in the back of the van creating all sorts of shadows making strapping down difficult in the dark, I also travel around Europe during the summers camping in the van so wanted the best i could get for my money, boy did i go OTT there is a ridiculous amount of light from the 8 i have fitted. For a connect you'd only need three! couldn't recommend them more!. I fitted them to a preexisting netting i use to store things.

To put into perspective, below are two pics of the the standard interior lights taken on my iphone

Cheers for the advice, but all I basically want to do is replace the small one thats up there now with a bigger brighter one.
As in a two wires = two minute job. Thoughts on a replacement?

I've fitted four aluminium strips to mine now. All run off the same feed on the original light, through a couple of voktage regulators (two strips per regulator).
