Whats my connect worth???

Postby woolf » Thu Jun 26, 2014 5:00 pm

2003 220 lx tdci with 185,000 miles in medium steel blue, mot next april and taxed.

Good points
heated screen and mirrors
electric windows
drivers seat arm rest
Bodywork in great condition with very few marks
17" mondeo alloys with 4 new tyres
arches/rear bumper/handles all painted.
Drives well for miles.

Bad points

i think attention is needed to injectors(cuts out under load but ok locally) i had a new injector last year which it was fine when i had it done)
clutch pedal doesnt return right to the top(im thinking new clutch)
rattle when ignition turned off(i suspect flywheel but may be clutch related)
Ive debadged bonnet so will need painting

im just considering what these jobs will cost or do i sell as it is and get another newer connect.

any advice appreciated here.

I bought an 06 lwb high top for £1200

Needed injectors had 154k 1 owner and FFSH

So I'm guessing around £500-£700 taking in to consideration £400 for clutch and £350 injectors
And other bits

But I may have got mine too cheap and judging it wrong

Problem you have is weighing up the cost of putting your van right and what it'll cost to buy another with the same spec, condition etc and you may still be faced with the same problems in the near future.

This is what im trying to weigh up graham,do i spend and put these jobs right, injectors, clutch and flywheel on a vehicle with 185,000 or do sell it as is and buy a newer one with i would say lower miles.........not so fussed about same spec as its my work van so can live without electric windows etc

years back i had an old vw caddy, the engine blew up so i put a new engine in it at approx £600 cost,i only had it back on the road 3 months then the rear chassis collapsed.

185k is nothing to these engines and if the body etc is good you may have a nice van once the works done, then on the other hand it may turn out to be a money pit, but the same could be said about any second hand vehicle. I guess it's just down to you we're you want to spend your money. I use my van for work and often up and down the motorways on long distances. Spent a lot last year when the pump went and had to fit a new starter motor a couple of weeks ago. If the engine went I think I'd just fit another rather than replace as I may just end up starting again.

My clutch pedal doesn't return fully to the top either. Always hook my toe under and pull it the rest of the way. I've had a new clutch and slave cylinder and also changed the master cylinder but it's still the same. I think my mechanic said something about the vacuum pump or something. But it works ok with no problems so won't be changing that in a hurry as it sounds like lots of money lol.

That's a lovely looking van you got there.

Maybe it's a case of "better the devil you know"!!!!

My clutch pedal also does not return fully I was wondering if it was due to requiring a bleed as air may still be present.

Noony.

Replaced my vacuum pump this year. Cost £54 plus £30 for the pipe. Easy to fit too or about an hours labour.

Where abouts is it? Any bleeding required? Much dismantling? Would that solve the saggy clutch pedal you reckon?

Vac pump has nothing to do with clutch & main pipe from it runs to brake servo.

Clutch may require bleeding. Best way to do it :-

Get a brake pressure bleed kit. & attach it to bleed valve on CSC.

Open bleed valve on CSC & pressurise. Brake fluid is then pumped into CSC, then flows to clutch master cylinder & finally to brake reservoir.
(Don't attempt to depress clutch pedal when bleeding)

It was bled and bled well when the master cylinder was changed a couple of thousand miles ago.
