Glow plug flashes - engine cuts out

Postby WayneB73 » Wed Jul 16, 2014 3:31 pm

tdci 90 55 plate,

Driving home the glow ply light flashes and engine cuts out.. Van restarts and drives fine.. Had all the filters and oil changes at local garage and they said when running diagnostic check the pump had low pressure. They cleaned pump.. 2 days later same problem, I'm overtaking a slowing car with cars behind when light flashes and engine cuts out.. Dangerous!!

Iv got van booked in Friday. And one got any idea as possible fault or cost? Seems it's a common fault to which people seem to have problems fixing with upto £2000 + spent.

On a 55 plate connect transit 95k

It'll be injectors, pump or feel supply, common problem with the crap Delphi system
Please don't send me PM's, i can't access them, when I try I get this:

If they cleaned the pump and no swarf I'll bet its the injectors. You may possibly find its running a little rough from cold start with some blue smoke as well. Codes read and leak back test to confirm.

£2000???
No where near.
Did a system for a member on here, Griff, pump and filter, 4 injectors, timing belt kit for under £970.
All parts included.
All recon delphi injectors and recon delphi pump.
If you need any help feel free to ask.
Could be low flow on pump or poss injectors or both.

Thanks for the replays peeps :)..

My local garage did say the pump had low pressure and as some said above the cold start is kicking out smoke and had a lumpy idle which continues when hot, to be fair the van drives great at 60/70mph etc..

Iv got it booked in tomorrow so hopefully will have good news.. I didn't get given any fault codes from my local garage, the garage iv got it booked in at repair slot of diesel cars so they seem bit more clued up with latest equipment..

Dieselboy ? If I need a new pump or injectors what price can I expect to pay if quoted? Or what should I refuse to pay? Shame you don't live local as I'm in Norwich..

I can't afford to pay more than £1000 on repairs at the mo..

Injectors from garage will be around £130 each plus vat.
Pump around £350 to £400 plus vat plus all other parts plus labour.
If you need to know my injector price you can pm me.

I have the same fault on my engine rebuild, I had someone code in the injectors today, left the van running and after about 30 mins and it cut out. When I looked at the dash the glow plug light was flashing, turned the key and she fired up fine, drove it out the garage and again cuts out but this time I wouldn't restart. After a couple of mins it starts and runs fine again, could this be injectors? and wheres the best place to get new/recon ones??
