Had my TDCi 110ps since new in 2008.

While it has never actually broken down, it has never really run perfectly in the 77,000 miles l have driven it.
Problems have been a lurching at 2500 rpm, shunting on light throttle, self revving and smoking when reversing, inability to run well below 1500rpm when slipping clutch, as when doing a three point turn for example (keeps trying to rev up)
And for the last eighteen months the performance has varied between full power and reduced power, with the engine sometimes making a "mooing" noise on acceleration with reduced power (sticking turbo vanes?) There is now a twittering noise if you accelerate, then take your foot off the gas.
The EML light sometimes appears, limiting RPM to 1500 max until you turn off the ignition, and restart.
No fault codes are stored.
It's been back to Ford a few times, they "updated the PCM" which on the first occasion made it worse. They were unable to "undo" the update and l had to wait over a year until the next update came out! After that it was back to the previous faults, except that since then it dumps out great clouds of black smoke when you try to reverse up somebody's drive.

Although l love the van (great to drive, well made, good loadspace etc) l would not have another TDCi. it's a Caddy or an NV200 for me next time round.

It's a shame as when it runs properly, performance is very good.

90ps tdci. Remappable upto around 110-115ps (courtesy of vantuner). Economy wise I get around 40mpg around town and upto 45mpg depending on my driving and how late I am to work etc lol. That's always got a good 250-300kgs of tools onboard everywhere.

Mines never let me down apart from the classic 3 wire loom (which is only £20 to replace). Then it's just been regularly services and worn out parts which haven't been all that expensive to replace with good quality aftermarket stuff.

As for model/trim level. If it's an early one go for the LX model as that's got aircon, heated screen etc etc. later models the "trend" or "limited" are the fully loaded ones.
