Had a little time today so just had a check.

with Focus box 60 mph = 2024 rpm:

Didn't think to check with IDS

Yours is virtually the same as my connect with a Focus 3.41 gearbox. :D

(My results are posted on my project thread)

Fitted later intercooler today, made a small piece up so the original inlet air temp sensor can sit in the hose:

gave it a good hard run and no leaks

Just got to find the 2 small corner plastic covers now

Next job is try and work out how to use the Focus variable nozzle turbo with the Connect ecu and no MAF sensor

No 100% conclusive results maybe due to slight variation in ambient temperature, wind direction + other factors

Looks like the later intercooler makes a difference

With original and later type intercooler I gave it a before and after run on the same stretch of road at the same time of day, ambient temperature was about the same give or take a degree, , both hard pulls with turbo pumping in approx 30psi,

original intercooler, inlet air temp = 62°

later intercooler, inlet air temp = 48°

Quite happy with the results, a 14° drop in inlet temp will up the power output just a tad

This bit puzzled me because it seems so far out of line with my 110PS (3.80 axle ratio - on ETIS).

Checked it today to make sure, and (in 5th gear) it's 1750 RPM at 50mph - 2100 RPM at 60 mph.

Why is there such a diff.?

Me & Liteace both have Focus mk1 gearboxes fitted that have a ratio of 3.41

When checking live data on IDS at 60mph engine is it 2000 rpm as shown here  viewtopic.php?f=54&t=128295&start=660#p1258589

There's not a big difference if you check it properly, your doing 60mph = engine speed 2100rpm,

with the 3.41 diff 60mph = 2024rpm

I agree with you there. It's pretty close @ slightly over 2000 revs. I'm keeping an eye on the RPM needle under road conditions/changing gradients/etc.

I'm not an idiot, but not an expert mechanic. I'm asking for a logical explanation why Paul's engine (with the 3.41 MK1 Focus gearbox) is delivering 60mph @ 1700 rpm where mine is doing only 50mph.

If it's turning over more slowly than my 110PS (with the standard gearbox & axle) then surely it's delivering more MPG so saving fuel? If it's doing so then is it sacrificing torque for acceleration & straight line performance?

I fitted bigger wheels, had 15"s and put on 16"s, I didnt touch any of the setting as I knew I was going to fit Focus engine and box, after fitting engine and box I changed the setting in the ECU for wheel, tire and final drive ratio as you can see here:

viewtopic.php?f=54&t=149429#p1254889

If you throw together parts and dont change the setting, maybe because you dont know how to until someone else does it, as I said in that post your vehicle speed and rpm are going to be out, you may think your doing 600mph in 5th @ 1000 rpm but when everything is set correct then your not.
Its best not to take any notice of video'ed dash clock, change settings 1st, then check live data

You've forgotten one thing. Speedo readout, they are not spot on. Normally a 2 to 3 mile difference than actual speed (less than what's indicated on instrument cluster) :!:

Hence why I said mine was approx 1700 rpm at 60mph...
Actual speed at 1700 rpm is 56.4 mph according to IDS & yes mine is set correctly & inspected by Ford. :D

Although final drive ratio of gearbox don't effect indicated speed on instrument clusters or IDS on connects from 2006-2013.
As vehicle speed is calculated via ABS systems instead - No speed sensor on gearbox unlike 2003-2006 connect that do...

Managed to get today Mondeo 115 ECU, will have a play with that to see if i can get the Focus variable nozzle turbo working with it
