rattle on cold start tdci 75 2006 97k miles

Hi all, got a problem with my connect where on the first start up of the day I get a rattle noise coming from the engine bay, it only lasts for a couple of minutes then goes and doesn't do it again until the next morning when it's cold again. It's not diesel knock but it does do this abit too until it's warmed up. Anyone had this before or know of a common fault? The cambelt was changed last year before my ownership.

Glow plugs working alright?

As far as I know, the light comes on and goes of as it should and it doesn't struggle to start.

Check the cable that runs along the glow plugs. They have a tendency to burn out where they connect to the loom on the right hand side of the engine.

Ok will do, cheers. Just spoken to a mechanic I use and he said it could be an oil pump issue

Rattle or a sort of clicking noise?

It's hard to describe, it's sort of inbetween the two

Just started it up again and only doing it slightly as it's warm but did sound more like a click this time.

Had it on mine but only from cold start. Seem to be coming from the LH side as you look under bonnet. Garage diagnosed it as "Hydrolic Lifter Noise" . Ran some top end treatment through and seems to have cured it. IIRC there are some rubber seals (maybe seals is not correct word )which can dry out and the treatment they used re-lubricates them.

Ok I might give that a go, any recommendations on which treatment to put in and how much to use?

These engine are not fitted with hydraulic lifters \ tappets

Picked the connect up from the mechanic yesterday, it was the auxiliary belt tensioner, so no too bad in the end.
