Exhaust

Postby gaz68 » Mon Sep 08, 2014 8:35 pm

Just had a price for a middle box and tail pipe for my tddi 55 plate, the bloke wants £130 including vat fitted,is it worth buying one off the net to save £30 or are they a ball ache to fit ..

Pretty easy, unless there is anything else wrong. I did mine in 30 mins, but I had recently replaced the cat so the bolts at that end were easy to get off and on again. I had mine up on wheel ramps, back end up in the air. I struggled a bit for space at the connection to the cat but it got done ok. I used a bit of wd40 to get the rubbers on. I had to replace one rubber as one was missing. A generic cheapie from halfords worked fine. Getting the old one off I actually just angle ground the holders off for speed.

Never come across an exhaust that was that bad to fit. Even changed my sisters peugeot 307 one which has that shitty spring type thing instead of a flexi joint. Assembling that monstrosity wasn't even that bad.

I was in exactly the same position a couple of weeks back. Got new exhaust fitted from a plume garage for £129 all in. When I saw him break out the oxy-acetylene to get some of the nuts off I was glad I didn't bother myself.

If it comes off easy then its an easy job, if not then you'll wish you hadnt bothered. I use to fit exhausts years ago and sometimes what should have been a 30min job can be a couple of hours epcially with aftermarket parts that dont line up properly!
