clutch slipping at only 54k

Postby no1toker » Tue Oct 21, 2014 12:10 pm

hi all, i was driving from bristol to swindon Saturday plodding along the m5 doing 60mph, when to pull out and start over taking a slower car so i put my foot down the revs increased speed stayed the same, let off the throttle revs dropped back to normal, if i increased revs with light acceleration it picks up speed fine, it seems way to early for this the clutch to be going at only 54k, the vans a 2006 75ps tddi, not had an hard life either brought it off my step dad last month who had it from new and only used it for his fishing gear and runing around,

Common fault with Connects is the throttle pedal sensor, having your codes read will show if its this.

how would a faulty throttle pedal make the clutch slip? i have a reader but cant see how that would affect the clutch!

It doesnt but can affect the way it revs giving a similar effect.

could be a few reasons inc a leaking slave, smf clutches are'nt that much so could be time to change......if u know its going to slip either don't try to accelerate in a high gear or change down

Id say clutch personally. 54k isn't too bad on one clutch. I'm coming upto 50k on my one now and I'm expecting it to be starting to go soon. I carry weight all the time and it's remapped so a fair bit of stress on it.

Just remember to get all the components changed, flywheel should be ok, but definitely friction plate, cover plate and slave cylinder.

Hi toker, great mame btw did you own van From new, or was it for eg, an ex fleet van?
Fwd trannies seem to heat clutch up faster than the rwd ones poss due to different diff ratios plus they all seem to have turbos now. 54K may seem low to need clutch job but Unless you owned from new and can honestly say the clutch has never been rode, slipped or abused, it could even be something else like it was never fully releasing as an eg, and now The plate or cover has worn excessively !

If you are able to fix it yourself then you should be left with a reliable van!

The clutch has been slipping in our 09 connect for about 30k miles!
It's fine until you boot it!

By contract our 57 plate has done 120k miles, and it's still fine
