Which wheel bearing has gone?

Postby gt_addict » Mon Oct 27, 2014 6:25 pm

Hi guys,

Just need confirmation as to which wheel bearing is kaput. When I steer left the noise is louder so I'm assuming it's the right wheel as that's the one under more stress?

Thanks in advance.

Jack up the front and spin the front wheels the one with the grinding noise is the one thats had it.. Grab the top and bottom of the wheel and pull and push with oposite hands and the wheel will either not move or rock like a pensioner...

Well you can't always tell like that there's a lot of force on a wheel bearing when you hoof it round a corner Like a fookin nutter.more that a feeble human can exert and than you can't turn it at the same time to hear it like you dig man :?: cool... anyway alltransit will be able to tell you the duff bearing from that information

Well it turns out it was the left hand bearing that was fooked. So the whole turning left being noisier meaning it was the right hand bearing is knackered is complete tosh lol.

No surprise really. It was a Contitech bearing for £25 and it's done 20,000 miles with a heavy van the majority of the time. Got a nice SKF one in there now though :)
