Connect not starting,

Postby sam400 » Wed Nov 26, 2014 11:41 pm

Hi all after some help with my connect please,

I ran out of fuel 2 days ago, thought I was going to have a mare with it but stuck a can of diesel in and it went straight away, done about 30 miles since all ok.

Tonight I am driving home and the battery light comes on, van carried on driving ok tho, however when I go to use van again later on it won't start. After a dig about under the intercooler I find a broken red wire on the alternator I re-soldered and shrink wrapped it.
Still won't start, thought maybe a fuse had popped so checked all the fuses under the bonnet but there ok.
I cracked the injectors off next and there's plenty of fuel coming through. The battery sounds strong on the starter.
Also the glow plugs are working ok. No warning lights on dash.

Completely stumped anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Sam

I don't have a clue but you can see if there's any fault codes. You can read them via the mileage display. If u search on here or you tube it should show u how to do it.

Is your van a TDDI or TDCI?

The only things I can think of are crank and camshaft sensors that couldve gone. But they are more of a degenerative thing, they don't tend to just fail. Unless the wires/connections have been knocked.

It's TDDI, it hasn't missed a beat till now, I have tried reading the codes but my reader won't connect to it for some reason.
It's weird it drove home ok but won't restart?

It must be something to do with the battery light that came on, too much of a coincidence otherwise

51 plate. That must be one of the 1st connects.
You can read codes on our 54 plate. Did u try holding trip rest button while switching ignition on?

That only brings up DTCs for the instrument cluster, not the the engine unfortunately.

Your right mines a 53 plate! Long day

I ve now finished testing all the alternator wiring, there's 12v on the red wire, I've tested the continuity of the grey and blue wires back to the ecu pins 32 & 72 no problems there.

I ve tried jumping the van from another van to see if it would go with 13.5v in the system but no luck

I am thinking the battery light might be a red herring.

My fault code reader won't read the codes, so thinking of getting the f super lead and software , as I am not sure what to look at next.

Anyone got any ideas

Cheers

Have u tried a sniff of easy start or hair spray to see if it will start on that then if it will run on its own. I know u said there is fuel at injectors but is there enough. Is it possible u have sucked some muck up and choked filter.

Thanks you make a good point about the diesel filter could have sucked some crap up when I ran out!
I ve just bought one from halfrauds going to put it on in a minute.

I am not sure about the easy start though, what does it prove?

Cheers
