wet belt

Postby m00ms » Sun Jan 25, 2015 6:44 pm

hi all,

i have a 53 plate 90bhp swb connect which is now on 142,000 miles,i know the wet timing belt is due at 150,000 miles but i am looking to change my van soon so can i ask if belts are known to snap as i cant decide which van i want next so is it safe to ignore the expense of getting both belts changed or leave for next owner?

You've not got a wet belt on a 53 plate, you have a chain from crank to pump and dry belt from pump to cam, it was about late 06 ish Ford's started using wet belt

Ford's do recommend changing the chain at 150k but ive seen Ford's with 300k on and the chains never been touched
Please don't send me PM's, i can't access them, when I try I get this:

Garage just checked mine during cambelt change. Mine's an 08 plate and has a chain. The garage asked Fords, who said the belt was only fitted during the 08 year.

Ford TSB

8/11/10 Fuel injection pump on 1.8L Duratorq-TDCi (Lynx) Diesel service engines equipped with the crankshaft timing sprocket belt-in-oil system
On vehicles with Lynx diesel series build from 10/2007 onwards the crankshaft timing sprocket which drives the fuel injection pump sprocket by means of a chain drive has been changed to the belt-in-oil system.
1.8L Duratorq-TDCi (Lynx) Diesel service engines with Siemens fuel injection pump will be delivered with the new belt-in-oil system only.

Listed in the faults & fixes thread here  viewtopic.php?f=54&t=124877&p=1304608&hilit

There will be a quite a few Connects registered in 2008 that still have lower timing chains. As built date would be 2007
