110 remap

Postby highroof » Mon Jan 26, 2015 9:50 pm

Can anyone who has had this done, relate their experiences, good and bad? There's a rumour that says the clutch may only just be up to the job. On the other hand, I want to go faster, so it's a chance I'm prepared to take, unless there are other reasons not to?

I'm fondly imagining that plus 27 brake and 50 lbs ft are noticeable and worth having.

If wait until you need a clutch. Then fit an uprated one. Someone on here has a paddle clutch from somewhere. Then get your remap. Saves the hassle of forking out for a new clutch until you need one.

Ah, ok, so it really is a possibility the clutch will slip. Do any other Ford ones from other models that have more power fit? The standard clutch must only just cope with standard power, I suppose it's the torque increase that does for it.

My remapped 90ps hasn't suffered any clutch issues since the remap a couple of years ago. But it would've only been mapped to about 110-115hp. Obviously you're heading way above the standard power. I'm guessing the clutches in the 90 and 110 connects are the same hence why mine is doing alright. You will be quite a bit above that so the possibility is that you are above the threshold the clutch can take, bearing in mind short gear ratios on vans mean torque is delivered sooner compared to more powerful car versions.

The Mk1 Focus tdci 115 uses the same size'ish clutch as the connect, 228 - 230 mm, some are 235mm but you dont see many of them, I cant see why the clutch is a problem, Ive seen a couple of re-mapped Mk1 Focus up to about 125-130 and no problem with the clutch
Please don't send me PM's, i can't access them, when I try I get this:

I'd like to do it, but it's primarily a work van, so needs to be as reliable as poss...it also does very regular trips between Southampton and Newcastle, and I'm not keen on making something less reliable in the middle of one of those trips.

I did my 57 plate 90, and it was quicker and better on fuel, so obviously I can see the benefits, but there's a significant number of people saying the same thing about clutch slip on the 110.

Do any other Fords that have more power as standard have a clutch that's a direct replacement?

This is the clutch out of a Mk1 Focus 115 as you can see it uses a 228mm friction disc

The Connect 110 uses a 240mm friction disc, I cant see why there would be a problem with the clutch slip

I'd love to know the stats for the amount of people who've had a 110 remapped that have had clutch problems soon afterwards. Age of van, mileage when remapped, mileage when clutch started to slip, type of load carried, annual mileage, mainly motorways or town, etc, etc.

It might help me decide what to do next, I've got the opportunity to have mine terracleaned and mapped next month, and I'd like to do it, but it's a fun versus potential aggro conundrum.

I suppose it all depends on usage, town driving is going to put a lot more wear and tear on the clutch, long constant speed m\way driving is'nt
