Loss of power on 2010 connect

Postby nardi » Tue Feb 24, 2015 6:32 pm

Today going to work early morning on A3 after 10min driving my connect lights, instrument cluster, signal and break lights went dead but the engine still working and the battery light came on.Was on the fast lane and slowly moved on the left lane and stopped at the first exit, switched the engine off started again fine with everything working.
Five minutes later and the lights , instrument cluster going on and of,could hear the relay tiking on the fuse board behind glve box.
Drove to work and checked all fuses and relays, everything fine .
Drove back home and everything normal.
Can anybody explain what happened, has anybody experience the same?
Its frightening to break down on A3 without hazards and break lights , everybody it will crash on you.

Well ,I managed to get the codes stored on instrument cluster and this came up.
Code 9317 Battery voltage high(more than 16V)
Code A286 Mode switch sticking.
Seems to have sorted out itself because the van works fine now.

I would say low electrolyte level in battery would be the cause if not then alternator is it over charging.

Thanks Paul
The battery seems fine ,it starts in the morning first time every time and the voltage steady.
Shouldn't there be a smart charge on the alternator ?

Yes smart charge circuit - Plug with 3 wires on alternator

PS make sure if battery is correct type if been replaced at some point - MUST be Silver Calcium type due to smart charge. :!:

The battery is the original from new ,the factory fitted.
Used the van whole week without any problem ,probably caused by a sticky relay.
Cleared the codes but is there a way to clear the codes on the dashboard without using external machine?

Well after easter holidays with the van stationary for four days there seems to be something wrong with electrics on my connect ,now the battery light stays on all the time and DTC codes stored 9317 and E200
I checked the battery before cranking and with engine running is 12.2/15V so the alternator is charging, but where is high voltage problem?

The battery light is on because its over charging, Its best to get it checked out before you boil your battery

9317 = Battery voltage high
Please don't send me PM's, i can't access them, when I try I get this:
