hi diagnosing problems with connect diesel .

Postby wertyu2007 » Thu Apr 23, 2015 11:56 am

I have a 2003 connect i recently bought , its not the tdci version .

Its 2003 but has the older style mechanical pump and the old style injectors , i have no idea what this system is called ive always worked on common rail systems .

Anyway , it broke down on the way back from buying the van , the AA man suggest it was low fuel pressure .

So this mourning i have changed the fuel filter and im now getting good clean fuel through and into the filter , engine will still not start, i opened each and closed each injector and fuel is being released .

So im at a loss on how to diagnose from here .

I think its either fuel pump or injectors , i once read about a solenoid on these type of pumps that is used to turn the fuel on and off , could these be a good place to start .

to be honest im not used to working on this type of system and not know much about them does not help .

So being mechanical it can only really be fuel pump , fuel injectors and compression ?

How did you open and close each injector, with a pop tester ?

Plug a diag tool into it, if your getting:

P1664
P1564

replace the pump or replace the PSG module on the top of the pump
Please don't send me PM's, i can't access them, when I try I get this:

No just cranks the nuts , just to see if fuel is reaching and no air locks etc .

Will it still have codes and sensors then being the mechcanical type injection ?

my diagnositcs tool only read 2004 onward diesels .

If its not TDCI then must be TDDI especially if 2003.My guess would be pump.

Common problem with Connect TDDI's VP30 fuel pumps

Engine fails to start following DTC's are & stored. - Failed fuel pump (EDC bolted to top of pump)

P1564 Injection Pump Control Module Requesting Reduced Fueling
P1664 Injection Pump Control Module Malfunction

Engine running, but has diesel knock & following DTC's below are stored - Faulty fuel timing solenoid located on back of the fuel pump at the bottom

P0149 Fuel Timing Error
P1564 Injection Pump Control Module Requesting Reduced Fueling

Get DTC's (error codes) read 1st
2007 Ford Mondeo mk4 1.8 TDCI -RETROFIT IN PROGRESS
2009 Jaguar X-Type 2.0D
2010 Vauxhall Insignia- RETROFIT IN PROGRESS
