Connect 1.8tdci 90ps engine problem

Postby algieboy » Tue Jul 21, 2015 10:06 pm

Ok guys wondering if any one can tell me what this problem could be. I have had this since I bought this van a week ago. Sometimes when I start it usually first thing or if its been stopped a few hours I get a rattly sounding engine when i start it.Switch off and restart and it sounds a sweet as a nut, rattly tappy noise has gone and it will drive all day sweet as.
Anyone got any ideas what it could be.I have gave it a full service Changed the oil with 5/30 sythn ,Oil filter, air filter Fuel filter its made no difference.

Hi Graham, it could be diesel knock, my big transit had a similar noise untill I got the prv valve and updates done on it.But on my big tranny it was there all the time never went away.Thats why I am thinking it could be something else on this as it stops after a while and runs quite .If it is diesel knock how would i cure it on the connect.

Cheapo supermarket fuel causes it with mine so now I only use Shell or other branded fuel. Could try filling up a couple of times with premium diesel and see if that makes a difference also try adding a measure of Millers or similar when you fill up.

Three common faults with the Connect but not to difficult to repair.

No idea, that could be anything is it a rattle as something vibrating? Maybe if you made a video and posted on line with a link here someone may be able to identify it.
