TDCi fuel pump timing

Postby Piglet » Wed Apr 27, 2016 1:41 pm

I'm a bit confused on this.
Is it necassary to time the TDCi pump or completely irrelavent?
And if you do need to time it, how?

Also what's the purpose of the RTV sealant under the pump sprocket? I can't see what it's supposed to be sealing.

Cheers men

TDCI fuel pumps don't need timing.

BUT crankshaft must be timed up along with camshaft. :!:

On the tdci the pump just maintains the desired rail pressure its the injectors that control the fuel timing. N

Have you got a fuel fault?. N

No, all should be good, I just wanted to check my work.
Wasn't sure if the timing crank sprocket could rotate on the crank if not clamped by the pulley.
It would appear that it can't, I tried.

VW TDi pumps need timing to coincide pressure peaks with injector opening.
Can't find any mention of this for Ford TDCi pumps.
