Wheel spin

Postby rizmo » Tue Jun 14, 2016 8:21 pm

I am getting a lot of wheelspin, both pulling away quickly in a straight line, but also on full lock, such as from a side road. The tyres are Firestone van tyres, newly fitted 8 months ago. Have noticed this over the last month, bot in wet and dry conditions. I will add that the tyres were put on by the selling dealer, so may have come off another van, or been in stock some time. Pressures spot on (hardly ever had to add air). Van performance is pretty brisk, so may have been chipped at some time, but strange that it has only recently started doing it. Any thoughts - other than use lighter right foot?!?

My 08 TDCi is a bit 'snappy' away from tickover, hard to get a gentle smooth pull away.
I've got used to it but it's not the best drive in stop/start traffic.

I've had really old tyres in the past that have had poor grip.

I've always found that with FWD diesels, you need to apply just a few revs, feed in the clutch, and then apply the power once it's rolling. It's too easy to spin the front wheels with the low down torque when starting from rest. Your only problem then, is torque steer :P

The only problem that I get, is that I sometimes get in to drive the wifes' petrol Focus, forget that it's not a diesel and has no low down torque, and promptly stall it

Wifes buying in laws petrol Astra, I hate it.
I've had Diesels for years now and I reckon it's the EMU's anti stall programming, old skool mechanical diesels seemed more progressive.

Cheers folks, so it must be me. Unfortunately, I have driven automatics for years, so I have to think a bit with a manual!
