Car stalls in slow traffic if AC is on

If I have the AC running eventually the engine stalls and I get a code for PO 607.this means that the programming of power train/engine control module failed. Once I let it cool off , and turn off the AC , the car works again. Eventually the check engine light goes off. It's very bad in the summer because I need the AC. Two things come to mind: I did have the alternator replaced. Also a few months ago I hit the bottom of the car in a pothole quite seriously. If anyone has had the same problem or any idea I could use your help . Thanks.
